Ely, MN Summer Yurt Rental

Looking for a woodsy, remote cabin experience?  Why not instead consider a yurt near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA)? A remote yurt is a great place for hikers, canoeists, fishermen, bird watchers, writers, nature lovers and those who enjoy peace and quiet.

Outside view of our yurt

Your first question may be, "What in the world is a yurt?"

It is a unique name given to a round roofed structure that was invented thousands of years ago by Mongolian nomads. In recent years the yurt has been modernized to accommodate different living situations, but its basic structure has remained the same.

Inside our yurt

A yurt has a circular lattice wall topped by a round roof that culminates with an acrylic dome offering a view of the trees and sky. Though it has a simple design, yurts are tough and eco-friendly; there's not much in them besides wood and cloth, sitting lightly on the ground. A yurt allows you to experience the beauty of a remote wilderness setting while enjoying some of the comforts of home.

Another view of our yurt

During the winter months, we utilize the yurt with our dog sledding business by taking people on trips that end up at the yurt for the night.

Another view of the inside our yurt

Fishermen, canoeists, photographers, hikers, bird watchers, writers and those who simply love the beauty that the north woods offer, will find this to be a place of rest and relaxation.  There are no roads, no neighbors and no telephone.

Another view of the inside our yurt

Our fully insulated yurt is twenty-four feet in diameter and is supplied with a gas refrigerator, gas lights, gas cook stove, three trundle beds that will sleep six people, a futon sofa which sleeps two, an efficient wood burning stove with glass door, table and chairs and even some fun games to play.

Sunset on the river

The yurt is conveniently situated near the BWCA surrounded by many lakes which you can explore with the 17' canoe that is provided. You may bring your own small fishing boat if you wish.

Moose in the woods

There's a chance you will hear wolves and loons right from the yurt.  While canoeing the river, you may come upon a moose or  deer.
